Trinity Of Light

This brass candelabrum rises with a presence that is both architectural and organic, conceived not only to hold flame but to embody it. Every section, from the inscribed base to the branching arms, carries artistry and meaning, turning light into ritual and metal into memory.

Calligraphic Inscriptions
Engraved across the base and beneath the vessel are Fatimid-style praises to the Sultan:

Arabic:
"العز لمولانا السلطان العادل المؤيد الناصر المنصور"

Transliteration:
al-ʿizz li-mawlānā al-sulṭān al-ʿādil al-muʾayyad al-nāṣir al-manṣūr.

Translation:
“Glory to our lord, the Sultan, the just, the supported, the victorious, the triumphant.”

The inscriptions transform the base into a foundation of words, anchoring the candelabrum in divine blessing and authority.

Artistic Details

  • Circular Base: The foot is layered with engraved borders and calligraphy, its looping script catching the light like a whispered verse.
  • Elongated Stem: Rising from the base, the shaft narrows into a teardrop form covered with interlacing vines and stylized floral patterns, weaving geometry into poetic rhythm.
  • Branching Arms: The shaft divides into three graceful arms, curving outward like living branches grown to cradle light.
  • Candle Cups: Each cup is engraved with script and ornament, designed so that when lit, the flame animates the letters, turning calligraphy into fire-lit text and shadow.
  • Surface Patina: The brass glows with a warm patina, its tones darkened by age and use, bearing traces of smoke and touch across generations.

Interpretation
This candelabrum is both functional and ceremonial, uniting flame and inscription into one dialogue. By design, it transforms in use: light activates its script, shadows animate its arabesques, and the object itself becomes a living bearer of ritual. The praises to Sultan al-Muʾayyad root it in authority, while its harmony of geometry, floral ornament, and branching form reflects a philosophy where illumination, memory, and meaning converge.
